With Hillary 1984 change has arrived.
March 20, 2007 | Leave a Comment
Are we looking at the dawn of a new political power in our country?
With the release of the Hillary 1984 video yesterday on YouTube.com a new form of political advertisements may be on the cusp of popular culture and just might help take the power away from the politicians and return it where it belongs, to the people.
Any “would be” filmmaker now has an open door for political commentary in the sense they can create their own political ad, based on fact or fiction and release it to the world. The phenomenon of the Hillary 1984 piece is a prime example of this new tactic.
Whether created by the Obama camp or not, the message is quite powerful in its simplicity and execution. Speculation has arisen to it’s origin and certainly someone will want to take credit for the work, however that point is almost mute.
Certainly politicians would love to have access to the wonderful world of viral marketing and this might be the big break they are all looking for.
But, let’s get back to the people.
While we may not see too many spots with the quality of execution presented in the Hillary 1984 spot, we will surely see an influx of consumer grade ads being created and hopefully with more creativity and flexibility than the standard political fair. When anyone with a camera and an idea can edit together their thoughts and visions on the political process, we might just reach a new level of transparency in the rhetoric politicians use to sway voters.
I personally hate political ad season. It seems the first two weeks are always geared toward any candidate attempting to impress the voting public with his or her record and accomplishments, then inevitably the political pissing match begins and it turns out to be nothing but dirt and each candidate trying to destroy their opponent not only for the current race, but seemingly to prevent them from even being able to continue to live in the same community.
I for one will welcome outsider opinions, if only for the opinion and humor involved in depicting what portions of the community and country see in candidates that they probably don’t see in themselves.
Let the good times roll, on film that is.
